Cosmetic White Fillings

Composite Fillings

Composite fillings are the technical term for ‘white fillings’ and are a cosmetic alternative to dental amalgam. A colour which matches the colour of your other teeth will be chosen so that your tooth will look as natural as possible. Here is how white fillings work:

  1. The procedure will require the decay to be removed for your tooth, and taking out the metal or amalgam fillings if you are having them replaced.
  2. The new filling is made from a very hard and durable resin-based material. The material is soft initially to allow the dentist to manipulate the shape of the filling in order to mimic the natural shape of a tooth. A high-powered laser is them used to set the filling so that it is hard. It goes very hard immediately so you are able to eat on these types of filling straight away
